5 Small Business Apps You Shouldn't Live Without

Monday, September 29, 2014

Running a small business is no piece of cake. For all of you out there currently trying to run a successful business -you know this already. Don't roll your eyes and walk off muttering about my poor choice for a first sentence just yet though. What you might not know is that there are several apps out there currently that have been tested, retested, and have provided a whole heck of a lot of benefits to their users. Why add unnecessary stress to your already "want-to-pull-my-hair-out" life? You certainly don't have to. I'm telling you, these apps are pretty great. What are they you ask? Well, keep reading friends and I'll tell you.

Evernote: This is an application that is great for syncing notes together. Evernote works as a great solution for small businesses to organize and keep track of notes, deals, projects, little tips, etc. This application allows you to share notebooks between employees. With Evernote you are able to use 2 GB of space to upload and organize your notes. You get these 2 GB of space per employee, per month so it allows you to keep growing.

Asana: It is a cloud-based task management tool for team projects. The application allows users to assign tasks to individuals. Within each task you can add notes, subtasks, add deadlines, etc. More than just assigning tasks though, you get the capability to upload documents, tag elements, and speak between employees. Asana is free for groups of up to 30 people. If you've got more than that, the pricing starts at $300/month for teams of 50.

Meeting Mapper: This application is an iPad app that is available from the iTunes store. It does exactly what it sounds like, it maps out your meetings. It tracks the opinions/ideas of every meeting participant and makes it easy to create tasks or action items and schedules them for follow up. This is a handy way to make the most out of your meetings and feel like you're walking away with some beneficial information and important steps moving forward.

Dropbox Business: Dropbox is definitely a huge competitor for storing files and now it is even more beneficial for small businesses. Dropbox business allows you to securely view and share necessary files with others (fellow coworkers, etc.) instantly and all around the world. While this comes with a free trial, the cost to operate is not free. Cost depends on the number of employees you have, so be sure to check out their prices and find what's cost effective for your business.

Expensify: This is a big one, and a big help to small business owners. Expensify is an expense application that you can use on your mobile phone. This is a great application in that it has the ability to amass the expense report making process. Expensify works to track purchases that you make over your various bank accounts and credit cards. The application even has the ability to enter the information itself if you take a photo of your receipt (cash purchases, etc.) The application has the ability to do invoicing and bill processing. It is an extremely affordable option with many other great features. It is free for individual use and for team/corporate users it will cost between $5-$10 per account. Really amazing stuff.

These are the very basics of go-to business apps that can benefit you today folks. This is by no means the end-all list. I mean, look at the world we're living in. There are so many more apps out there that are live and more even than that in development that can do some amazing things to help your business. If you're not operating at 100% efficiency you should be trying to figure out what you can do to improve. I'm not asking you to chop off a leg, I'm asking you to help yourself. Check back for more posts on which business apps can benefit your business. Remember also, many of these apps come at little to no cost to your business. Think about the benefits there. Having a system in place to remove some of the headache and take a bit of weight of your shoulders is kind of priceless. The technology and capability is there, why not use it? I know, I know, "You're so right Breanne, why didn't I think of this sooner?!" No need to thank me. OK never mind, go ahead. What are your favorite apps right now? What are you using to save bits of your sanity on a daily basis?
